Terry Gower, a past hard working SPA treasurer, has asked me to bring the following to your attention.
I have had 3 different Clients whose employees are receiving a tax underpayment notice from HMRC which are not underpayments but a failure by HMRC to take into account a 53 week year.
It appears that RTI is not communicating properly with those who deal with underpayments.
Terry has called HMRC and HMRC agree the amount of tax paid but tell him that each person must ring HMRC and tell them it was a 53 week year. It is possible this is happening for weekly payroll staff.
Have you or your clients experienced this problem? If so please let us know urgently.
